Cigar review: First Diesel Esteli Puro review in the world.

Cigar review: Usually I get to a cigar review months or years after the smoke has made it’s initial appearance in the marketplace. This is due for a variety of reasons.

  1. I am not on the top tier  of cigar bloggers. The heavy hitters in the cigar blogging world get product way before I do or I never get them at all. They also may have staff, farm out reviews or are full time cigar bloggers . This is not my case. However, I welcome guest cigar reviews for anyone who feels the desire to do this.

2. There are thousands of blends released every year and no  reviewer have access or get time to smoke cigars 24/7 as far as I know.

3. I am not a prolific reviewer of cigars. I push out about 30 reviews a year. It was suggested to me by other cigar bloggers that I need to up the ante to be considered a serious cigar reviewer.

That may be true and one day I might accomplish this but right now 30 reviews a year seems right.

Hope this explains my cigar agenda concerning reviews.

Cigar review time: ”  Diesel is set to make it’s debut next month. Called “Esteli Puro” the full time addition to the Diesel lineup was created in collaboration with AJ Fernandez.”

“Blended by AJ Fernandez, , handcrafted at Tabacalera AJ Fernandez in Esteli, Nicaragua and developed by General Cigar’s Justin Andrews, Diesel Esteli Puro is made with hand-selected leaves that are cultivated, processed and aged by AJ’s team. Heady aroma and spice dominate, lending body and dimension to the cigar, and delivering a smoke for experienced palates.”

As always, how and where I receive the cigar does not impact my subjective judgment. Please smoke the cigar yourself and make your own decision.

Appearance/Construction: Medium brown wrapper with tight construction. Smart looking cigar with the band and cedar  wrapped band making it pop. The wrapper is oily to the touch with no obvious issues or concerns. It appears to be a well crafted cigar.

Flavor/Taste and Aroma:  First Third: Diesel cigars have a rep. of offering powerful, full bodied cigars. I have thought this too but not at least in the first third of the Esteli Puro.

Smooth, cashew undertones with complimentary line of licorice, cloves and cedar in which I liked a great deal.

Second Third: With a new blast of black pepper, added to the previous mentioned flavors, the cigar opens up to a new dimension of power with grace.

Final Third: The black pepper rolls back somewhat and we get a medium to full body cigar that represents a wide gamut of taste and enjoyment.

Smoking Characteristics: The cigar is an example of outstanding craftsmanship with burn, construction and draw top shelf. Ash is medium grey.

Conclusion/Overall Impression:  For some reason I have thought Diesel as a second tier cigar. That is, it did not give me  a reason to  go out of my way to buy one.

The last several productions including this one from Diesel has totally changed my mind. Diesel is right up there with the big boys of the cigar world.

Final Thoughts/Overall Impressions  and the Numbers: If General Cigar is smart, they need to push this blend in a very aggressive manner and market it in a big time way. I am glad to help them achieve this goal but they need to reach out and give me a holler. My review might kick start  in letting them push this baby out.

Go out and get your stash of Diesel Esteli Puro in the multiples , say at least ten.

I gave one of the smokes to my friend Mark and he much pretty echoed what I had to say without me telling him what I thought until after he finished the cigar.

Appearance/Construction: 4.2 out of 5

Flavor/Taste and Aroma: 4.2 out 5

Smoking Characteristics: 4.5 out of 5

Conclusion: 4.3 out of 5

Keep smoking
