Cigar review:
The plan was to publish this review several days ago but the internet, phone service and television crapped out thanks to the team at Spectrum. It took about 12 hours to restore but by that time I did not feel like starting a review. Now that all services are working , it’s time to pump out another review.

LA GLORIA CUBANA SERIE R

The Gloria Cubana cigar companies has had a long history with two different owners since the 90’s. Presently they are under the domain of General Cigars , the very successful company with a large portfolio of products.
As always how and where I receive the cigar does not impact my subjective judgment and suggest you smoke the cigar yourself and make your own opinion.

Where and When Smoked: Lone Wolf Cigar Lounge, Los Angeles, 8/20/18
Appearance/Construction: Very solid construction as it looks like you could use it for a sledgehammer. Oily to the touch with an attractive dark brown wrapper. Texture is somewhat rustic with several veins showing. The cigar gives you a sense of power and the cigar band is a classic look.
Flavor/Taste and Aroma:
The first third grabbed my palate with a coffee bean and chocolate combination. Both flavors worked well with each other. I also got a hint of dark chocolate after the first 20 minutes or so.
Second third: Throw in a pop of black pepper to give it more overall body and strength. The previous flavors still were present as we smoked further.
Final third: The cigar provided a very light hint of mint around 45 minutes but near the end the spice dominated the smoke and threw the overall combo off.
Smoking Characteristics: Mostly a smooth burn, handsome dark grey ash but around two-thirds in, the burn line grew uneven. It did correct as the cigar headed towards the finish line. There was one relight.
Conclusion/Overall Impression: A full-bodied, good smoking cigar , a throwback to the early days of the cigar boom. nostalgia for the way it used to be.
Final Thoughts and the numbers: General Cigar needs to push La Gloria Cubana line back to the glory days. It remains 30 years later , a model for well crafted, full-bodied cigars.

A cigar which one needs to smoke when you need a hit of a full-bodied cigar. A five pack should be in your humidor.
