Cigar Review: La Palina Maduro. A strong competitor in the world of maduro smokes.

 

 

 

 

Cigar review: It must be the German in me, but I like things in order. My father was so obsessive about keeping thing in order, he would come into my room and straighten out my shoes underneath my bed. He also wore a tie when he ate his meals. I questioned him on this type of discipline and he looked at me in disbelief. ” Everything must be in order.” I could not argue about that.

As I begin to write this review, I put the comments together when I smoked them. A cigar I smoked in October for example would be reviewed before a November cigar. This really makes no sense but that is what I do. Everything must be order. A Gerechter maxim.

As always how and where I receive the cigar does not influence my subjective view. If my writing gives you an idea  the cigar should be sampled, please do it. I received this smoke at a cigar night at Porter Valley Country Club in Northridge, Ca. I organized the event and all cigars were purchased from Famous Cigars.

Appearance/Construction: Rich chocolate looking wrapper with a smooth, oily touch to it.  Good looking construction , tiny veins visible but overall a handsome smoke with the band giving it a sharp look.

Flavor/Taste and Aroma: The first hit was a deep chocolate flavor with a pleasant aroma. I rarely talk of aroma so it must have made an impression. The blend was medium to full  profile as the first, second and third part remained consistent in my flavor take. Maduro cigars are starting to enter my world more often. Not sure I would buy a box of them but a 5 pack for sure.

Smoking Characteristics: The burn line was slightly off in the first third with a grey ash and  some dark flecks. The slightly uneven burn was not a factor in the construction or enjoyment of the cigar.

Conclusion/Overall Impression: I have had the opportunity to smoke several La Palina products this year and I am glad for that. This blend proved to be a quality smoke with all the attributes of a fine maduro composition.

Final Thoughts and the Numbers: La Palina has become a very good choice for me as a regular smoke. I like what the company is doing and this maduro was a solid performer.
