Cigar review: Romeo Y Julieta Reserva Real Tubo
The Romeo Y Julieta name has been a long-standing favorite in the cigar community. However, to me the Dominican version has never ever been close to the original Cubanentry. Have felt the DR product were more hype than substance. Let’s see if I can be proven wrong on this particular blend. I need to be convinced otherwise.
RYJ may be purchased just about every where from catalogue stores, B and M’s and even your local 7/11. Famous cigars carries the full line of the DR. blends so that may be the place to start.

Where and When Smoked: Los Angeles, Ca. 12/3/17
Appearance/Construction: Semi , oily feel with a striking crimson/gold band. Texture is smooth as the wrapper has several large veins showing. Medium brown in color and the stick is good-looking.
Flavor/Taste and Aroma: First third was an interesting duo of nuts and mint with a very mild , smooth taste on the palate. I also got a hint of citrus but again very mild. During the second third the overall flavor was pretty consistent with a slice of pepper coming into play. This extra taste made the cigar somewhat more complex and not so bland.
As I was thinking good thoughts about the smoke , the last third became a different cigar. It was as if , the stick was trying to make me feel angry, giving me payback for not liking DR, RJY smokes. The flavor became bitter with a very off-putting taste, almost flinty and harsh.
Smoking characteristics: The cigar had a light, grey ash with a steady burn line and cool smoking. The construction was strong with no big issues at this stage of the game. AS mentioned in the flavor section, my cigar was giving me many challenges in the final third.
Conclusion/Overall Impression:I really wanted to give this cigar an honest try without comparing it to the Cuban product. As it panned out , the DR RYJ was a mediocre smoke and gave me a bad experience. It does not make the cut.
