IMG_3459.jpgI always have been  a fan of the Lancero shape. They appealed to me as a good-looking way to smoke cigars.  As we know trends come and go.  Cigar smokers shied away from this size, and started to smoke larger and larger ring gauges. Manufacturers looking to please their clients offered cigars approaching gigantic proportions.

Perhaps as a turnaround, we are seeing more offering in the Lancero shape.

Villiger Cigars is making a  splash in the market with some impressive new cigars  and come up with this limited 500 boxes production.

Villiger Cigars announces that the Villiger La Flor De Ynclan will be presented in a special edition Lancero Especial size, at the 2018 IPCPR in Las Vegas this coming July. The Villiger La Flor De Ynclan robusto in 2017 garnered a 93 rating, ranked as the number 10 cigar in the world by Cigar Aficionado Magazine and voted the 2017 number 6 cigar in the world by Tobacco Business Magazine.

A cigar years in the making, Heinrich Villiger and Master Blender Matias Maragoto felt that the best version of the Villiger La Flor De Ynclan had yet to be released. The new Lancero Especial size is described as providing a more intense smoking experience in both flavor and smoke. Only 500, 25 count boxes yearly will be produced for this special edition Lancero Especial vitola.  The Villiger La Flor De Ynclan Lancero Especial is a 6 3/4×43 with an MSRP of $11.00

Chairman of the Board Heinrich Villiger said, “As I have stated in the past, the Villiger La Flor De Ynclan cigar has been an ongoing labor of love for us, and we feel that we have further refined the blend with the addition of the this special edition lancero vitola. “

About the Villiger La Flor De Ynclan: Diligently crafted by Heinrich Villiger and master blender Jose Matias Maragoto of ABAM Cigar Factory in the Dominican Republic, the Villiger La Flor De Ynlcan was a cigar 10 years in the making. Villiger Cigars produced a small batch of La Flor De Ynclan over a decade ago. Unsatisfied with the final result; the decision was made to cease production. The tobacco was set aside and aged, while Matias meticulously tweaked the amount of the Indonesian, Dominican, and Nicaraguan tobacco within its Ecuadorian wrapper. Present day, the La Flor De Ynclan is what both imagined it could be. The result was a smashing success as it received numerous accolades after its re-launch in 2017. The highlight being a 93 rating and being named the 2017 number 10 cigar in world by Cigar Aficionado Magazine.

As always, my reviews are my subjective opinion and please make your own judgment about cigars.

Brand/Name of Cigar: Villiger/ La Flor de Ynclan Especial

Country of Origin; Dominican Republic

Size: 6 3/4 x 43

Wrapper: Ecuadorian

Binder: Indonesian

Filler: Nicaraguan, Dominican

Shape: Lancero

Price: MSRP, $11.00

Where and When Smoked: Los Angeles, Ca. 7/22/2018, Received gratis for review from Villiger Cigars.

Appearance/Construction: The cigar had a small pigtail, medium brown wrapper with a smooth, semi oily feel. No apparent construction issues with a few small veins showing.

The presentation was very artistic with a classy band and color scheme.

Flavor/Taste and Aroma: First third: inital flavor of caramel , coffee and a hint of pepper. After 10 minutes or so, I was introduced to a new combo mix of burnt orange and cream. Sweet and flavorful.

Second third: Now added to the original flavor, I was tasting mint and more citrus probably lemon. Medium in overall taste.

Final third: More pepper which enhanced the complex nature of the cigar and made it more powerful. This gave it a bit more strength  and full-bodied.

Smoking Characteristics: Even burn, smooth, stayed lit with a grey ash. No problems with the cigar.

Conclusion/Overall Impression: I felt very regal as the  smoked billowed as there is something about a Lancero that makes me feel almost important. Villiger cigars has left me with a very good impression, and hopefully they will produce more of them in the future.

Final Thoughts and the numbers: Limited release cigars are almost unfair to the cigar smoking public. Once you find out about a cigar, they are probably unavailable. I understand they are showcase cigars featuring the craft of the smoke but chances are you will not experience it yourself.  If you want to try this Lancero, maybe you can bribe someone to get it.
