Cigar review: Diesel cigars were always a blip in my cigar world. I would sometimes smoke a Diesel if one was in my humidor or it was part of a sampler. That changed after I smoked the Diesel Whiskey Row which I truly enjoyed.
Diesel Wicked was staring at me in my humi for some time and I thought it was time to try it out. As usual how and where I received the cigar does not impact my subjective view. Try it yourself and make your own judgment.
Brand/Name of Cigar: Diesel/Wicked
Country of Origin: Nicaragua
Wrapper: Pennsylvania Broadleaf
Binder: Nicaraguan Habano
Filler: Nicaraguan Ligero
Shape: Torpedo
Price: App. $12.00
Where and When Smoked: Los Angeles, Ca. 11/4/18
Appearance/Construction: Very dark black wrapper with an oily feel.
This is a big looking cigar, not a pretty boy with firm construction, rustic appearance. The band is actually pretty basic but the second band covers almost half of the smoke.
Flavor/Taste and Aroma: First third: No denying this is a very earthy blend with a surprising influence of citrus, coco and maple. I had an image of smoking deep in the woods, in a flannel shirt.
Second third: Here comes the blast of spice, full-bodied and cranking up black pepper with a light taste of orange peel. Cigar is smooth.
Final third: The pepper increases dramatically which was somewhat overpowering and I lost the fruity essence which I liked.
Smoking Characteristics:The overall burn was pretty straightforward but did have an uneven burn about half way through. It corrected itself as we smoked further. There was one relight.
Conclusion/Overall Impression: The cigar left me a bit unsatisfied as the pepper gave the smoke too much intensity. Some would disagree with my assessment as this is what they were hoping for.
Final thoughts and the numbers: Diesel Wicked would be a very occasional cigar for me. The intensity needs to tone down a bit for my taste.
