Cigar review: Villiger Cigars has achieved several lofty top ratings the last several years from Cigar Aficionado magazine, bloggers and other publications
However Villiger Cigars still is a mystery to many people I speak to. In the LA market, there seems to be a lack of awareness about this brand.
I was reviewing their new product La Meridiana at the Lone Wolf Cigar Lounge and several patrons asked me what cigar I was smoking. Unfortunately not one person knew anything about Villiger Cigars.
I suggested they read my previous reviews from the Villiger line in order to learn how smokeworthy the line is. Hopefully in my own small way, I can help introduce their products to the Los Angeles crew and followers from my blog.
As stated by Rene Castaneda, President of Villiger North America , ” We feel that it is perfect time to launch the Villiger La Meridiana to the US consumer. The Villiger La Meridiana is an exceptionally elegant and flavorful cigar that I am confident will satisfy the cigar connoisseur. We look to begin shipping to retailers in March of this year.”
As always how and where I receive the cigar does not impact my subjective judgment and suggest you try the cigar yourself.

Appearance/Construction: Box pressed with a dark brown wrapper with an oily feel. Densely packed with tobacco, stellar construction with a nice interplay of the cigar hue and dual cigar bands.
Flavor/Taste and Aroma: First third: Started with a smooth chocolate, mild melon taste. Medium overall profile with a hint of spice.
Second third: Still cranking with no major changes in the initial profile. Added to the blend was a cashew/nutty back flavor that enhanced the cigar taste.
Final third: Cigar was given a boost of spice near the end for those who appreciate this added to the blend.
Smoking Characteristics: Solid construction throughout the cigar, no relight, dark, grey ash with an even burn. No hot spots or issues.
Conclusion/Overall Impression: An admirable smoke that should help Villiger kick up their presence in the highly competitive premium cigar market. La Meridiana makes a very impression to this reviewer.
Final Thoughts and the numbers: Talk to your local B and M to get this cigar and other Villiger products in their humidor. Also get the Villiger reps. to make their presence felt in your area.
