Cigar review: Blast off for Diesel Delirium

Cigar review:

I was actually afraid to smoke this cigar. As described by brand manager, Justin Andrews, ” Diesel Delirium is about disruption.  It’s a cigar that demands the smoker’s attention. Delirium’s definitely powerhouse of a smoke, it’s also about dimension and balance. ”

After reading the introduction , I was not quite sure how to approach this review. Full bodied smokes I can handle but not sure about having a death wish in smoking a blend. I wondered if this might be the last cigar I would ever smoke.

However, I decided that for the sake of all cigar smokers, my review would be as always  based on my subjective opinion and you need to make up your own thoughts about Diesel Delirium.

Brand/Name of Cigar; Diesel/ Delirium

Country of Origin: Nicaragua

Size: ( Length x Ring Gauge ) 6 x 52

Wrapper: Ecuadoran Sumatra

Binder: Connecticut Broadleaf Wrapper

Filler: Nicaraguan Ligero/Ometepe

Shape: Toro

Price: $10.00 MSRP, I received the cigar gratis from General Cigar for review

Where and When Smoked: Los Angeles, Ca. 5/10/2020 , Happy Mother’s Day

Appearance/Construction:  A smooth , dark brown hued wrapper, firm and oily to the touch. There is a fair amount of veins showing but I can live with that. Overall it’s a good looking and powerful presentation.  The bands are sharp , well designed , making the cigar handsome.

Flavor/Taste and Aroma: First Third: A torrent of whiplash spice hits my palate with an undercurrent of vanilla and toffee. The power is maxed out right away but the mix of the flavors does not make it too wacked out for me.

Second Third: The spice is still very much dominant and the flavor revs up another notch. The overall taste does not create an inferno but it does pop and I wonder about my well being.

Final Third: The cigar is as strong as advertised but the flavor is fabulous. I down some ice tea to keep the nicotine from putting me on the ground.

Smoking Characteristics: Dark grey ash with a slightly uneven burn in the second third. It corrected itself as we smoked down. Just a minor annoyance.

Conclusion/Overall Impression: This is the type of cigar that indeed you need time to indulge in. Long puffs are the key to keeping you on target with the Delirium. If you like a powerful , gut punching cigar, you need to try this.

Final Thoughts and the Numbers: The cigar gave me a full taste of everything a blend of this type tries to be. Do not be hesitant to smoke it but be prepared for your smoking sense to be tested.

I left about a quarter of the cigar in the ashtray as I needed to live to see another day. Try one if available as it is a limited release.
