Cigar Review: Punch Signature Robusto
I usually don’t get to review cigars when they first are released . That is not necessarily a bad thing as it gives others a chance to smoke a cigar and make their own opinion. It also allows me to find out about a smoke through other bloggers, friends, B and M’s , and other sources. Punch Signature is has been around for several years but this is my first grab at it.
As I mentioned in a cigar video I like Punch Honduras cigars for their full-bodied flavor, good price point and availability. Some boutique cigars while very good, are difficult to find.
The Punch Signature was part of a sampler pack that was purchased with a friend from Famous Cigars. We actually bought the Punch London Club and this was a free 5 pack that we split. As always how and where the cigar was purchased does not impact my reviews.
Brand/Name of Cigar: Punch Signature
Country of Origin: Honduras
Size: 5 x 54
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Corojo
Binder: Connecticut Habano
Filler: Dominican Republic/ Nicaraguan
Shape: Robusto
Price: Received as a free five pack sampler
Where and When Smoked: Los Angeles, Ca, 9/3/17
Appearance/Construction: A good-looking dark wrapper with several prominent veins, soft to the touch, and oily . The cigar band has the look of an old work wood cut which I am sure is what marketing desired.
Flavor/Taste and Aroma: The first hit really through me off, with a taste of old beer that was sitting around too long. It was really weird and not very pleasant. However, I wanted to give this smoke a chance to evolve so we puffed on.
The second third did get better with a heavy black pepper spice profile and a back hit of nuts and orange. The cigar seemed to hit a better stride.
Smoking Characteristics: The burn was far from perfect with an uneven burn line but eventually straightened out. Smoke was a bit hot but not really an impact. Ash was dark grey and stayed lit.
Conclusion/Overall Impression: I had this smoke in my humidor for several weeks and I think this is the type of cigar that would get better with age. I might need to get a couple more of the Punch Signature and try again. This review is based on the one cigar I smoked so overall it was a disappointing experience.
Final Thoughts and the Numbers:
After smoking this cigar I read a couple of other cigar bloggers to see what they thought. The results were all over the place which was the same feeling for me. I could see the potential of the cigar but it did not work right now.
Appearance/Construction: 3.2 out of 5
Flavor/Taste and Aroma: 2.8 out of 5
Smoking Characteristics: 3 out of 5
Conclusion/Overall Impression: 3 out of 5
Not a buy at the present, needs a good amount of time in the humidor.
Keep smoking
