Cigar Review: Fallen Angel by AJ Fernandez
Fallen Angel, ( get the play on words from my title) is part of the AJ Fernandez juggernaut of brands. AJ does not seem to sit still as just about every dealer or brand are working with him. He does make the San Lotano oval which is one of my favorites. I don’t like to compare smokes but a piece of me wants to see if the Fallen Angel is as good as the oval.
As always how and where I received the smoke does not influence my judgement. If you like what I wrote, I suggest get the stick and make your own opinion.
Brand/Name of Cigar: Fallen Angel by AJ Fernandez
Country of Origin: Nicaragua
Size: 5 x 52
Wrapper: Sumatra Ecuadorian Oscuro
Filler: Nicaraguan Ligero
Shape: Robusto Box Pressed
Price: Sampler from Cigar International, special sale price, 8 cigars for $12.50
Where and When Smoked: Los Angeles, 10/22/17
Appearance/Construction:Box Pressed, slick oily feel to the wrapper with several veins popping up. The cigar looks pretty healthy with good construction, and a cool looking cigar band with an embossed tobacco leaf ( I think) This is a dark looking wrapper, very brown.
Flavor/Taste and Aroma: Chocolate pops right away with a fruit based aftertaste, almost cherry like. Smooth from the start with a slight spice sometimes rearing it’s head but not bitter or harsh. The flavors all seem to fit and blend together very nicely.
Smoking Characteristics: Grey ash holding strong without any burn issues , very good char line. Construction very true throughout the smoke.
Conclusion/Overall Impression:This is a smoke that is very friendly as it delivers good flavor, some spice in the later parts of the cigar. The product is another good example of a well crafted AJ Fernandezcigarand a nice addition to his vast array of smokes.
Final Thoughts and Numbers:
A smoke that makes you smile with a overall sense of balance , flavor and construction. This cigar surprised me and for good reasons. If a cigar manufacturer has a good reputation I think it is his responsiblity to deliver good product in all price points. This cigar does it all.
