Lifestyle: This past weekend , I attended a micro brand watch convention in Culver City, CA. Cigar people also enjoy focusing their attention to other items such as watches, pens, and other collectibles.
I have been enjoying watches since I was a teenager, but my first watch was given to me by my dad when I was 6 years old and just learning how to tell time. It was a Mickey Mouse watch which unfortunately I no longer have.
Since then I have what I would call a modest collection of timepieces not based on expense but the style of watch. I tend to gather dive watches and pieces from the 50’s.
The event featured 60-70 micro watch companies, with styles of watches as big as you can use your imagination.
I explored the different manufacturers tables with a fellow cigar smoker and watch aficionado. Everyone was very friendly, glad to see us and not giving us a hard sell approach to buy a watch. The vendors truly enjoyed working in the field of Horology, explaining their products, displaying them and letting the consumer try the watches on.
I was looking for a new piece but if the product didn’t hit me or the price point was not in my ballpark, there would be no sale for me.
I looked at over 30 watches and tried them on my wrist, everyone of the pieces were well made, crafted to great specs. but nothing quite was to my liking, that is until, almost the last vendor I spoke to.
Camp Watch Company is based in Los Angeles, Ca. owned by Justin Jakobson, an industrial designer and a stickler for detail. If you want to know more about the company and it’s design process, check out Campwatches.com. where you can peruse all the specs on the watches.
What drove me to this watch, was the look and feel of a retro watch with the modern technique of current manufacturing understanding.
It is cool looking watch with great detail from case, color of the dial, three watch straps included, and the typeface is clear and distinct. You can figure out what the time is right away without any issue.
I wanted a watch that folks would notice , not because it is flashy, but a watch person would nod their head in appreciation of the beauty and design.
It’s not a timepiece for everyone , but that is exactly the point for me anyway.
I wanted a great look, quality specs. a reasonable price and something I could wear with any type of clothing or in any environment.
My rating: Quality of components: 5 out of 5
Look and design: 5 out of 5.
Watch bands: 4 out of 5
Keep smoking
