Cigar news: Two new releases from General Cigar were sampled by me, and both were winners.
Punch Cigars issued the Rare Corojo 25th Anniversary described as ” a bold and spicy smoking experience.” A Honduran puro made with a Corojo wrapper, binder with fillers of Habano and Corojo.
I found it to be a full bodied spicy blend of black spice, dark chocolate, and almond. Punch cigars are known for their power and this was no exception. Well constructed, no issues in smoking , and a dark grey ash . Punch always gives me satisfaction as I just light up, sit back and enjoy.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.
The Toro is 6 x 54, SRP of $10.99
The El Rey Del Mundo was next on the list, with a complicated name of El Rey Del Mundo King of the World VSOP.
The cigar consists of an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, Nicaraguan Habana binder and a blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican Habano fillers. It’s a 6 x 52 Toro. listed at $10.99 per cigar , 16 in a box.
My take was the cigar was rich , flavorful with a powerful kick as I smoked towards the final third. Full bodied throughout the smoke, with black pepper, citrus and an earthy essence in the whole blend. Be prepared with a cold drink as you need to take your time with easy puffs.
Rated 3.8 out of 5 due to the stronger than I thought taste of the cigar.
