Cigar review: The start of something good for 2020?

Cigar review: For the first review of 2020 I picked a cigar that has been stored in my humidor for almost two years.

I thought it would be a good choice to start the new year with a cigar company that I have previously reviewed and made a very fine blend.

Xurvivor Cigars is based in Ybor City, Florida and this is their story.

“Xurvivor Cigars is a startup that was born out of our desire to share Ybor City with the world.

We have modeled some of our core values and business strategy from some of the most successful modern companies in the world, including Amazon, Uber, and Tesla.

We believe in three things:

  • We believe in challenging the status quo.
  • We are here to offer you the finest cigars in the world.
  • We embrace excellence.

We are proud to bring a fresh perspective to the cigar society, and are here to make a statement.

We are taking a unique approach to getting our cigars in the market:

  • Most of our cigars are part of our private production in Ybor City.
  • Most orders are processed same-day and shipped within one business day.
  • We focus on quality, not quantity.
  • We are known for our limited edition cigars.

All Xurvivor cigars are 100% hand-made in our favorite city in the world: Ybor City, Florida. At Xurvivor Cigars, quality means everything. All our cigars are aged to perfection, zealously designed and meticulously built with the best tobacco from around the world. From packaging to flavor, we trust that smoking a Xurvivor cigar will always be an amazing experience.

Finest Cigars in the World

Most of our cigars come from private production in Ybor City and taken directly to our warehouses in Tampa for aging.

Depending on the collection, our cigars are aged at least 3 to 6 months. We use large humidors kept at 70% humidity and constant temperature. For each product line, we carefully craft the aging process differently. For example, we age our SELECTO collection for 3 months using Spanish Cedar liners in our humidors to create a perfect combination of unique flavor profiles.

All of our cigars go through a rigorous selection process. There is no coincidence experts that review our products rave about the construction and aesthetics of our cigars.”

As always, how and where I receive the cigar does not impact my subjective judgment as I review the smoke. I suggest trying the cigar yourself and make your decision.

Where and When Smoked: Los Angeles, Ca. 1/1/2020

Appearance/Construction: Medium brown wrapper with a firm, oily texture. The look is somewhat rustic with several seams and veins present but actually I like this look. Makes the cigar look very natural and native. The band is novel with a interesting design and does a good job of framing the the cigar.

Flavor/Taste and Aroma: First third: Started with a smooth, mildish approach with a oaky, cashew influence. Surprised me how mild the cigar was. Good start but let’s wait to see what develops.

Second third: Now a pepper introduction with an added layer of almonds. The nuttiness of the cigar is very clean  to the palate. The overall effect is solid , and fun to smoke.

Final third: More spice comes through but it remains medium in overall strength. There is a hint of licorice too. Overall the mix is well thought out and enjoyable. No harshness or rough edges.

Smoking Characteristics:  Slight deviation of the burn line but corrected as we smoked. Stayed cool, no hot spots or relights. A good job in keeping the cigar’s core construction focused.

Conclusion/Overall Impression: Good approach to a cigar with flavor, taste and built for all types of smokers. Fine smoking awaits you.

Final thoughts and the numbers: Cigars should be an enjoyable interlude in your life. If you need to battle through poor construction, indifferent taste or just an OK experience, the cigar will not satisfy.  The Galano hits the mark and price point should not be a factor in your appreciation of a cigar.

Keep smoking
